Joanna Kozlowska is considered one of the best Polish opera singers. Born in Poznan, she graduated from the Poznan Academy of Music. Still while a student in 1984, she won first prize - the Gold Award - at the International Benson and Hedges Vocal Competition in London. A year later she was awarded second prize at the International Vocal Competition in Rio de Janeiro.
Joanna Kozlowska has performed, among others, in the following opera theatres:
The concert activity of the artist includes Soprano parts in the works like Passions, Great Mass and Cantatas by J.S. Bach (Hamburg, Warsaw), Mozart’s Requiem (Warsaw), Rossini’s La Petite Messe Solennelle (Paris), Mendelssohn’s Eliash (Florence), Third Symphony by Gorecki (San Francisco, Zurich, Barcelona), Les nuits d’ete by Berlioz (Warsaw), Requiem by Brahms (Berlin), Handel’s Neun deutsche Arien (Poznan). Special attention is paid to the lied recitals (Warsaw, Wratislavia Cantans, Lancut, Ljubljana...).
Joanna Kozlowska has cooperated with conductors like Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, David Zinman, Nello Santi, Jeffrey Tate, as well as with numerous world-renown vocalists.
CD recordings of the artist include: Sandrina part in Mozart’s „La Finta Gardiniera” with Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels (Ricercar), part of Leonora in Verdi’s „Il Trovatore” live recording from Ljubljana under Mark Latonia (SF), Third Symphony by Gorecki with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra under Kazimierz Kord (Philips), all Chopin’s songs with pianist Waldemar Malicki (Accord), religious songs by Moniuszko (Accord), songs by Verdi, Karlowicz, Rachmaninov, Glier and Poulenc with pianist Andrzej Tatarski (ISR), two-voices songs by Mendelssohn, Brahms and Schumann with famous contralto Ewa Podles and pianist Jerzy Marchwinski (ISR), Opera Arias by Verdi and Puccini with the Poznan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under Grzegorz Nowak (CD-Accord/Universal).
